If you are in a dark room, then only a small light will allow you to see a lot. That’s because darkness is not a thing. It’s a lack of light. You can’t bring darkness into a room that is lit and watch the darkness increase. There’s no such thing.
Same with life and death. Death is not a thing, it’s the lack of life. When life comes in death must flee. That’s why the Bible says that when we become a new person in Christ, a literal new creature is created:
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
“Put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth” (Ephesians 4:24).
In this case, death was the lack of something, and when Life shows up on the scene, then all kinds of things happen. Things don’t happen when death shows up. Death is stillness, the end, no activity.
I want to relate all of this to the bloody war that our culture is engaged in right now, especially in our nation. Evil is running rampant, completely illogical and idiotic paradigms are being shoved down our throats, and hatred is flowing freely against Christians, Jews, political conservatives and others.
But are we surprised?
When people like Seun Feucht and Mario Murillo show up on the scene, and they teach and sing about God’s grace and mercy, and His phenomenal plan of salvation, they come running to the stage to get some of that!
Why?
Because light has entered the room. Life has entered the room. Remember, darkness and death are not really things, they are the lack of something. When light and life enter into the places where darkness and death once were, then the truth shines brightly and people are transformed.
At Sena Feucht’s concerts, people come to the stage and throw their drug paraphernalia and cigarettes on the stage. At Mario Murillo’s tent crusades, people sprint to the front of the stage begging to find Jesus before the meeting even begin! There is a hunger out there for truth in a world that is systematically trying to destroy truth. But people want truth, they want to know where to find it, they hunger for it, they are beginning to recognize that the lack of truth in today’s culture is leaving them empty and broken.
The stage is set for the Third Great Awakening, which is already in motion. Make no mistake, what could be the greatest revival not only in America, but in the world, has already begun. Wait for it. You’ll see.
No, DON’T wait for it. Run toward it. Participate in it. Ask God what your part in it will be, because you will want to tell your kids and your grandkids that you were around and actively helping with the Third Great Awakening.
Revival typically comes when the need is greatest. People typically turn to God when their needs are greatest. The world is hurting and is looking for the truth, and in many parts of this country we are already seeing significant revival.
Let us bring the light and life of Jesus into the darkened corners of our society and turn American once again back toward “One Republic, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”
