THE DENIAL OF EVIL

I was listening to the Flashpoint show recently and the host talked about a very influential book that I have not read: Ernest Becker’s The Denial of Death. He suggested, however, that there is something much more compelling and crucial that we need to be talking about, and he wished someone would write a book about it.

If we have ever we lived in an age of American history where the denial of evil is permeating culture, it is now. Every single issue that can possibly be attacked is being attacked, from Dr. Seuss to abortion to sexual identity to the traditional family, it’s all being attacked viciously with a cancel culture that is attempting to brainwash the people, especially the younger generations.

The denial of evil is an old trick, as old as they come. The serpent in the garden misled Adam and Eve into a denial of evil and that is the very source of the sin in the world to this day. We must remember that our enemy is toothless and harmless regarding his ability to actually accomplish anything against the children of God. His only tool is lying. That’s it. He can deceive people into doing things that are against God’s will. And many are falling for it these days.

The bible is explicit in its warnings:

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;

Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;

Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes

And clever in their own sight!

Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine,

And valiant men in mixing intoxicating drink,

Who declare the wicked innocent for a bribe,

And take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!” (Isaiah 5:20-23).

If EVER there was a biblical picture of what is going in here in America today it is this!

This is a perfect description of the satanic agenda that has infiltrated most aspects of our culture and is being violently shoved down the throats of many, sad to say, unsuspecting citizens. The recent letters from “Pro Life Evangelicals For Biden” is a perfect example of those who ought to be spiritually enlightened falling prey, hook line and sinker, to the liberal lying culture that seeks to call evil good and good evil.

It is very difficult for me to understand how these folks could possibly believe that Biden could ever have been interested in sitting down with them and seriously discussing the abortion issue with anything remotely resembling honesty or a sincere motive to get the “evangelical angle” on the abortion issue. Biden and his VP made it clear from the beginning that their goal was to push the radical abortion agenda to its furthest possibly limit. It’s what they do. It’s in the DNC Platform. It’s out there in public for all to see.

I am not sure what was going on in the minds of these “Pro-Life Evangelicals For Biden,” but it had at least something to do with a denial of evil. Please understand: the Bible is clear that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). I am also not calling these “pro-life evangelicals” evil. The title of this post is “The Denial Of Evil.” THAT, my friends, is the real problem here.

To deny that there is a problem, to deny that there are evil forces in control of our government right now (only temporarily, I would remind you), to deny that these people have evil motives that are blatantly anti-biblical and anti-Christ, is to do the work of the enemy. Sorry if that seems harsh, but those who called themselves spiritual leaders have been doing this for a very long time (remember what Jesus had to say to the Pharisees!).

But how did it happen? How have we come to the place where even those who call themselves Christians are actively doing the work of the enemy?

Too many Americans are still far too complacent, not even realizing there is a battle going on! What happens if you’re wandering about on the battlefield looking at the pretty flowers? Chances are you’ll get shot! Friends, we need to acknowledge that we are in a war, a war not just for this nation…let’s put that whole political argument aside for just a moment. We are in a battle of evil versus good, all over the entire planet, a battle in which those who are actively trying to reprogram the world into believing that evil is literally good, and many of us are not aware or not willing to admit that a battle even exists!

How did it happen? Christians gave away their influence on every one of the primary cultural battlefields. Universities have become shameless bastions of liberal lies, cancel culture, and socialist/communist ideology. Big businesses are actively canceling anyone who disagrees with the mainstream lies, to their own demise. Government is pushing the most aggressive pro-death abortion agenda we have seen, perhaps in the history of this nation. The media are infiltrated with liberal socialists. I could go on, but I have a different point to make.

One thing that I have noticed is how aghast Christians become when they see in action this concept of calling good evil and evil good. It should never surprise us when those in this world who are purposefully and actively fighting against Christian ideals call good evil and evil good. They have no choice. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. You can’t have truth and life without Him. We should not be surprised at all by the pro-abortion agenda, the attack on sexual identity, the attacks against traditional families, the attacks against Christian churches…it’s what they do:

“The mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so” (Romans 8:7).

The thing that SHOULD surprise us is the type of thing I’ve already mentioned. A bunch of pro-lifers got together and wrote a letter in October of 2020, weeks before the election, calling themselves “Pro-Life Evangelicals For Biden.” This, friends, is the very definition of the word oxymoron. A presidential candidate runs on the platform that he will be pro-abortion, he will repeal the Hyde amendment, he will fund Planned Parenthood, his vice president voted against the born alive bill and is herself one of the most pro-abortion politicians alive today, and these “evangelicals” support Biden?

There are two serious problems with this.

First, it betrays their rank ignorance. These people call themselves Christian “leaders.” They convinced more than 700 others to sign their letter expressing their disdain for Trump, instead supporting a known abortion supporter. Then they were genuinely surprised when it didn’t turn out like they thought it would.

The denial of evil.

Again, I am reminding you that I am not calling people evil. But they were denying (back in October) what is plainly an evil agenda that can only originate from the pit of hell. You cannot fight evil by compromising with it. Jesus never compromised with evil. He confronted it head-on and He didn’t look so sweet and charitable while He was doing it! He called out the Pharisees for being vipers, hypocrites, white-washed tombs full of dead men’s bones, and children of hell. Wow!

But it’s very important to remember that while He hung on the cross, He also prayed to His Father “Forgive them, because they don’t understand what they are doing.”

We can pray the same things for the Pro-Lifers for Biden, for Biden and Harris et al, for al the pastors who have compromised the truth of scripture form acquiescence to illegal and unscriptural government mandates, for all those who happen to be caught in the predicament called The Denial Of Evil.

We can pray that truth will abound, and we can remember that Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life. Without Him leading the charge, we will not necessarily be able to discern between truth and evil, and the Denial Of Evil will continue to run rampant.

Let us trust Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth. And I believe that if we do, the Denial Of Evil will become more and more relegated to the sidelines of American culture as we seek to win back the heart and soul of this nation.
